[MODULE 1] CHOOSING YOUR VAN
If you haven't decided what type of vehicle you're going to convert, you're in luck because we're breaking down the specs and pros/cons of the most popular vans for conversion. We're also sharing some sneaky things to look for if you're buying your van used.
By the end of Module 1, you'll feel confident searching for and purchasing the van that will work best for your budget and your conversion plans.
[MODULE 2] DESIGN YOUR LAYOUT
Designing your layout is perhaps one of the most fun – and most overwhelming! – parts of your van build. We're here to walk you through all the aspects to consider when designing your van layout. Plus, we're giving you real and tangible examples you can copy.
BONUS: This module includes a blueprint of our exact dimensions (as well blueprints for 2 larger vehicles), so you don't have to start completely from scratch.
By the end of Module 2, you'll have the tools and advice you need to design the layout that'll work for your van and your priorities.
[MODULE 3] FAN INSTALLATION
Installing a rooftop fan is key in keeping your van comfortable, especially in warm temperatures. With the right plan, this step is actually pretty easy and very satisfying. It requires cutting a hole in the roof of your van, but we've got tips to make this process easier.
By the end of Module 3, you'll feel confident cutting a hole in your van (it sounds scarier than it is!) to install a fan for maximum air circulation.
[MODULE 4] WINDOW INSTALLATION
Does cutting a hole in your van sound scary?! We know how intimidating this can sound, but fear not – we've got some handy tricks that'll help make this process a breeze! And when you're done, you'll have some beautiful natural light, making your van feel more homey.
*This step is optional: Depending on your vehicle, you may already have as many windows as you want. Alternatively, some people don't want windows in their campervan.
By the end of Module 4, you'll feel ready to cut a hole in your van and install a window (or two!). It's pretty satisfying!
[MODULE 5] SOUND DAMPENING MATERIAL
Sound dampening material will help keep minimize vibrations and keep out annoying road noise. This module ill walk you through the application process.
By the end of this Module 5, you'll have a clear understanding of where and how to apply the sound dampening material.
[MODULE 6] SUBFLOOR INSTALLATION
This may not sound very sexy, but creating a subfloor is a super important step in your van conversion. Think of it as your van's "foundation". This is how you're going to attach most components of your build to the van itself, so you've got to make sure your subfloor is strong and sturdy, and this module shows you exactly how to do it!
(We also cover insulation in your subfloor, which is another important piece of this step.)
By the end of Module 6, you'll know exactly how to build a sturdy subfloor that will be a solid foundation for the rest of your conversion.
[MODULE 7] INSULATING YOUR VAN
Insulating your van is key to being able to control the temperature inside. Without proper insulation, it can get very hot in the summertime and extremely cold in the winter, so strap in for this step-by-step tutorial that is even – gasp! – fun!
By the end of Module 7, you'll have a complete game plan for your insulation.
[MODULES 8 & 9] ELECTRIC & SOLAR
This is likely the project you're most nervous about... But with easy-to-follow instructions broken down into bite-sized steps, you'll feel confident enough to conquer your electric systems like a boss! Plus, you'll understand how many solar panels you'll require for your build and how to install them successfully.
BONUS: This module includes a blueprint of our exact electric system (including descriptions of all components & how they're connected).
By the end of Modules 8 & 9, you'll feel confident about working with batteries and wires, and you'll be able to create a plan for your own solar powered electric system.
[MODULE 10] WALLS, CEILINGS & CABINETS
Putting up your ceiling and walls will seriously transform your van and you'll start to see things come together. It's an incredibly satisfying feeling and this module will walk you through the exact steps you need to take. Plus, we're sharing some tips for working with uneven van walls that'll make your life a lot easier!
Additionally, this module has instructions for making overhead cabinets that are simple, yet look super professional.
After finishing Module 10, you'll have your walls and ceilings up and your van will start to look less like a shell and more like a home on wheels!
[MODULE 11] COMPOSTING TOILET
Everyone has a different opinion on toilets in campervans, and we've experienced a few different types. We're sure you'll make the best decision for you. Cassette toilets don't need to be installed, so it's easy peasy. But if you choose to go with a composting toilet (we're OBSESSED with ours!), we gotchu covered with everything you need to know about installing it!
BONUS: We are sharing the exact dimensions of our toilet box, which is much harder to figure out than you'd think... we'll explain why in this module!
By the end of Module 11, you'll have everything you need to install your very own composting toilet!
[MODULE 12] WATER SYSTEM & OUTDOOR SHOWER
Having running water in your campervan takes your home on wheels to a whole new level! This module will teach you how to install an automatic water system. We'll also share how to set up an outdoor shower, making it easy to feel clean on the road without taking up valuable space inside your van.
BONUS: This module includes a blueprint of our exact water system (including descriptions of all components & how they're connected).
By the end of Module 12, you'll be ready to install a powerful water system that functions similar to a water system in a traditional house!
[MODULE 13] PROPANE SYSTEM
Installing a propane system isn't necessary, but it comes with some big benefits: You can cook with gas, plus, you can heat water and your van with propane. This means you won't be draining your batteries as quickly. If you choose to add propane, this module will be super informative. We'll walk through how to install a propane system SAFELY.
BONUS: This module includes a blueprint of our exact propane system (including some essential safety tips you'll need to follow).
By the end of Module 13, you'll be able to install propane safely and confidently.
[MODULE 14] BUILDING YOUR KITCHEN
Building your campervan kitchen can be overwhelming because there are lots of decisions to make. This module walks you through all the components to consider and provides steps for turning your ideas into a real-life kitchen where you can cook yummy burrito bowls or breakfast sandwiches or whatever your tummy desires!
By the end of Module 14, you'll have the perfect kitchen design for your specific needs, and you'll be ready to make it come to life!
[MODULE 15] BED & BENCH DESIGN
A convertible bed (aka benches that turn into a bed at night) is a great design for making the most of a small space. It is a bit more complicated than a fixed design that's always in bed mode, but fear not – this module will give you the instructions you need to build your own super functional (and super comfortable!) bed! Get ready to wake up in paradise!
By the end of Module 15, you'll be stoked to build the bed that'll allow you to wake up with epic views, then transform into a comfortable space to eat, work and hang out!
[MODULE 16] STORAGE
Storage comes in clutch in a small space like a campervan. We've got some super sneaky storage ideas that we're spilling in this module. You'll findsome super creative storage solutions along with instructions for how to make them yourself.
By the end of Module 16, you'll have some creative storage ideas and a plan for your own campervan.
[MODULE 17] INSTALL FLOORING
Covering up your subfloor with actual flooring is so darn satisfying and is kind of like the icing on the cake. It really ties together your campervan and makes all your hard work shine. In this module, you'll find some handy tips for installation as well as the 2 reasons that you should definitely save this step for last.
By the end of Module 17, you'll be able to install your flooring properly and will be just about ready to get on the road and celebrate all your hard work!

How long does it take to build a campervan through the Van Conversion Academy steps?
The answer to this question is going to vary drastically based on how much time you can dedicate at once, how quickly you work, and the scale of your specific project. However, if you can devote a good chunk of time each day to your conversion, it would be reasonable to complete your build in 1 to 3 months.
By having all of the instructions in one place, you won't waste time getting lost in the Internet rabbit holes, and you can concentrate on the fun stuff – the actual conversion itself!
How much will my materials cost?
The total cost of your materials will vary drastically based on your exact plans. That said, we know it's helpful to have a ballpark number in mind so you're prepared with realistic expectations. This course details the steps required to build a middle to higher-end build, though there are sections that are optional or that can be modified to be less expensive.
We'd recommend to budget between $7,000 and $15,000 for the conversion. Note: This does not include the cost of purchasing a vehicle.
Good to know: One of the more expensive parts of your campervan build will be your electric system, so start thinking about which end of the budget you'll fall on.

In this course, you'll receive a complete material list, but the 3 most important tools (in our opinion) for a van conversion are:

Does is matter where in the world I’m based?
No matter where in the world you are, you can follow our tutorials to help build your van conversion.
We are based in the USA ourselves, so some of the products we recommend may be harder to get in other countries, though there are often very similar items. Also, our measurements are using the imperial system, but this shouldn’t affect too much of your process.
Is this course only intended for converting cargo vans?
This course was designed with cargo vans in mind. That said, the majority of the steps in a campervan conversion can work with any type of vehicle.
